What is wild jackfruit?

Wild jackfruit, also known as Artocarpus hirsutus, is a species of jackfruit that is commonly found in the tropical regions of India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. It is a large tree that can reach up to 20 meters in height and produces large, round, and prickly fruits that can weigh up to 10 kilograms.

The skin of the wild jackfruit is green and covered with sharp, needle-like spines. The flesh of the fruit is yellow and fibrous, with a unique, sweet and slightly tangy flavor. The seeds inside the fruit are also edible, and are commonly roasted, boiled, or fried, and used in various traditional dishes.

Wild jackfruit is rich in nutrients like vitamins A and C, potassium, and dietary fiber. It is also known for its medicinal properties, particularly its ability to heal wounds, soothe inflammation, and reduce fever. The wood of the wild jackfruit tree is also highly valued for its durability and resistance to termites, and is often used for making furniture and other household items.
